Youth Resource Centre

About Us

The Hive Youth Resource Centre is located on 329 Griffith Road Lavington right between Lavington Square and Coles. The Hive is especially for young people aged 12-17 years old, giving them “Somewhere to Go, Something to Do and Someone to Talk To”.

There’s plenty to do at the Hive and everything is free. You can come in for a game of pool, use the wifi, gaming consoles and computers and join in on one of our fun afternoon activities. We have trained youth workers available if you want to talk to someone about any challenges you might be experiencing or if you just need a safe, listening ear. There are also lots of different things you can join in such as art, music, cooking, youth leadership and school holiday programs.

Keep an eye on our facebook and insta accounts to stay up to date with what’s happening.

If this doesn’t sound like your type of thing, drop in and tell us your ideas for what the Hive could be offering, or send us a suggestion here.

Meet the Team

Michelle Milligan

Coordinator

“My favourite thing is being able to share the amazing work of local young people and The Hive with other organisations, schools and parents… pretty much anyone that will listen! I love seeing young people coming into the space for all different reasons and the connection they have to The Hive and staff. Young people have so much offer, sometimes they just need some support to unlock it!”

Liam Colvin

Youth Worker

“As a new member of the team out at the Hive I am finding every day to be the best! The whole youth team is so welcoming and passionate about what they do for everyone, looking at how they can help everyone to achieve greatness in their lives and it is infectious. I am also loving the opportunity to learn and grow as a person, and I find that every day the young people that we meet as well as the amazing team teach us something. I am also passionate about supporting our LGBT+ communities and the Hive is a great place to reach everyone and help them soar to reach their potentials.”

Jade Clements

Youth Worker

“As a proud Aboriginal Man, I am particularly passionate about working with our community and creating opportunities for Aboriginal young people to connect to culture and thrive. I love that I can provide opportunities to all young people that they might not otherwise get and knowing that I have made a difference in a young person’s day, life or journey, no matter how big or small that difference is.”

Sheridan Jones

Youth Worker

“A good day at work for me is having the opportunity to see young people, not only in our space, but in the schools and the community thrive, discover, and invest in their strengths and talents. I enjoy visiting local schools and community spaces, and being creative in engaging with young people to identify and empower them to achieve their goals.”

Bianca Edwards

Youth Worker

“I love working with young people to create amazing programs and events for Chill Out, school holiday programs and the community. I also enjoy working with the Hive’s Youth Leadership Group, the Changemakers who assist in all the Hive’s program planning.”

What happens at The Hive?

Chill-Out is pretty much what it sounds like, free time at the Hive to hang out, connect with people, or reach out when you need some help. The Hive is a big open space (a hexagon in fact) that includes:

Computer area and free Wi-Fi

Kitchen and cooking space

Full size pool table

Guitars

Gaming consoles

Comfy beanbags

Arts and crafts area

Cook ups and afternoon snacks

Chill-Out is on after school Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, however, this does vary depending on the time of the year and what’s going on.

Drop into 329 Griffith Road Lavington, give us a call on 02 6040 5507 or follow our socials for current events or activities on offer!

Calling all young future leaders! Age shouldn’t be a barrier to leadership, and we believe that with the right conditions young people can be a powerful voice for positive change.

The Yes Unlimited Change Makers are a diverse group of local young people aged 13-18 who are passionate about issues that affect young people and making sure that our organisation is doing the best job it can.

The Hive offers a range of different group programs, development opportunities, and recreational activities throughout the year. Some of these are aimed at growing new skills, building resilience, helping you cope with difficult things, connecting with others or just having lots of fun together with other young people.

We try to change our activities up based on what people are asking for, but they include things like:

Movie Nights

Kids in Kontrol (KIK)

Pool & Table Tennis Comps

Living Skills Program

School Holiday Activities

Sticky Stuff Sexual Health

Love Bites – Healthy Relationships

Foodie Fridays

While we have lots of fun at the Hive, we know that life can be tough sometimes and our team is committed to helping you navigate through the difficulties you might be experiencing. Some of the issues we can help with, or find a service that can, include:

  • Challenges with family
  • Finding somewhere safe and stable to live
  • Mental health, wellbeing and self esteem
  • Stress at school
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Growing friendships and connections
  • Physical and sexual health

When you reach out, we’ll connect you with one of our trained and experienced youth workers who will talk to you about what’s going on, work with you to develop a plan on moving forward and link you in with the right supports. There’s no pressure and we’ll be led by you. Depending on your unique circumstances some of the things we might offer include:

  • Brief counselling for you or for your family
  • Case management
  • Crisis accommodation
  • Group work related to the issue you’re experiencing
  • Referrals to partner services like headspace Albury-Wodonga or Personnel Employment
  • Mentoring
  • Coaching

Remember – you’re not alone and if we aren’t the right service for you, we’ll work with you to find one that is.
